Stop, Collaborate, and Listen: The Client-Agency Relationship

The Client-Agency Relationship

Client-agency relationships are delicate. Like any relationship, communication, respect and trust are key. Working together on a brand should be a collaborative effort. At Mittcom, we live and breathe advertising, while every client is an expert in their field, they’re not experts in advertising (that’s why you hired us!). By the same token, you know your business better than anyone else. Having a collaborative working relationship is the key. We can learn from each other, work together on the same goals and bring the best results for the brand.
As a client you may be frustrated and think the agency is headstrong, doesn’t understand your business or creative isn’t good enough. On the other hand, an agency may think, the client doesn’t provide clear goals, disrespects workload and timelines, and doesn’t want out-of -the -box thinking.
Both points of view are probably incorrect. Something isn’t working and most likely, you’re not talking.
It’s time to Stop. Collaborate, and Listen. (Do you have “Ice, Ice, Baby” in your head, yet?)
Talk, listen, and compromise (sometimes). Listen some more. Be collaborative, communicate and respect each other. At the end of the day, both sides have the same goal in mind: growing the brand. Who knew Vanilla Ice could teach us so much about advertising?
